Rev. Thomas M. Gannon, S.J., Director
Fr.
Gannon has served as Director of Heartland Center since
1994. He is past director of the Woodstock Theological
Center at Georgetown University and former professor
and chairman of the Sociology Department at Loyola University.
He has served as the Chicago Province's Assistant Provincial
for Formation. Before coming to Heartland Center he
was pastor of Holy Family Parish in Chicago.
Father Gannon is author of a book about spirituality,
The Desert and the City, as well as The
Catholic Challenge to the American Economy and
World Catholicism in Transition. He has written
and lectured around the world in the fields of sociology
and the sociology of religion and is a frequent retreat
director. His educational background includes graduate
degrees in philosophy and theology, and a PhD in sociology
from the University of Chicago.

Ms. Francine Hintz, Assistant Director
Fran was a volunteer with Heartland Center when it began
and joined the staff in 1992. Prior to that she worked
in administration at LARC, which is a not-for-profit association
designed to assist developmentally disabled adults. She
was also a correspondent for The Calumet Press.
Fran has attended Illinois State University, Calumet College,
and Indiana University Northwest. Fran has two daughters.
Her husband, Donald Smith, is the father of five sons.

they have eight grandchildren.

Rev. James M. Dixon, S.J., Associate
Fr.
Dixon's responsibility is with the Office of Peace and
Justice. He is Coordinator for the Indiana Catholic Conference,
and the Coordinator for Rural Life for the Diocese of
Gary.
Before coming to Heartland Center, Fr. Dixon was Pastor
of Our Lady of the Sioux in Oglala, South Dakota; Associate
Pastor at Our Lady of Mercy and St. Ignatius Parishes
in Chicago; Vicar for Native American Ministry for the
Diocese of Phoenix, Pastor of St. Anthony's Parish, Weiner,
Arkansas; Pastoral Minister for Hispanics in seven counties
in Northeast Arkansas; and Associate Judge of the Marriage
Tribunal for the Diocese of Little Rock.
Fr. Dixon graduated from Loyola University in Chicago
with a B.A. in Philosophy, Fordham University with an
M.A. in Sociology, and from the Toronto School of Theology/St.
Mary's with a M.Dv, Masters in Divinity. Fr. Dixon has
taught at St. Ignatius College Prep in Chicago.

Meredith McGinley , Research Analyst
Meredith is currently completing program requirements to earn a doctorate in developmental psychology from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. While at that university, she became involved in research and grant work, examining the role culture plays in the behavioral health outcomes of immigrant populations, particularly those residing in rural communities. Other research interests include parenting, prosocial (i.e., helping) behaviors, and advanced statistical methods. Meredith earned a master's degree in developmental psychology from UNL, and a bachelor of arts degree in psychology from Lebanon Valley College in Pennsylvania. |
